    Mixed Case – Codorniu Sampler

Founded in 1551, Codorniu is the oldest winery in Spain and one of the longest continuously operating companies in the world. It has undergone many challenges and changes over the centuries, but one of the most significant was in 1659 when Anna di Codorniu married Miquel Raventós and brought together two of the great winemaking families of Spain. In homage to his wife’s family Miquel, in spite of traditional practice, kept the company name Codorniu. More than 200 years later, their descendant, Josep Raventós, would go on to become the creator of cava using the traditional method of fermentation in the bottle.

    Majolini Franciacorta Brut

Franciacorta is one of the best-kept secrets among lovers of traditionally made sparkling wine. Champagne and Cava are fairly well understood in our market: Franciacorta less so. Not to be outdone, the region stipulates the wine must receive longer lees contact than the minimum required for Cava and Champagne. A case in point is this Brut, which receives 36 months of aging on lees before disgorgement.

All grapes are grown organically in silex (flint) and fossilized clay soils with vines aged 13 to 51 years. Harvest was carried out manually in small baskets from early September to mid-October. Malolactic fermentation in used barriques was followed by 9 months in second and third use barrels and a further 10 months in stainless steel before bottling.

  • Nua-Brut-vino-Spumante

    Nua Brut – vino Spumante

Nua Brut is from one of Italy’s top Prosecco producers. Located in Milan, they have produced for us a special spumante to fit the price and style required. Although it is not 100% Glera (the Prosecco grape), we actually think it is a lot better, as they have added Pinot Noir to our blend to give it more seriousness and some suggestive red fruit notes. This wine shows vibrant red apples, ripe citrus, honey and hazelnuts with a hint of toasty brioche. The bubbles are persistent and mouth filling and the wine finishes clean. A great bubbly at a fantastic price.
