Bodegas Forcada
Bodegas Forcada is a unique winery in a unique location.
The estate is located in La Rioja (specifically in Rincón de Olivedo) within an area designated by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. The winery will be the only one allowed to incorporate the logo “La Rioja, Biosphere Reserve” on its label. The mark ultimately identifies companies which are transparent and accountable to the environment, consumers and their own workers.
Grape cultivation is organic, with only manure used as fertilizer. Vineyards were planted by David Forcada’s grandfather in the early 20th Century, and many of these vines are still producing today. The landscape is rugged and barren and looks almost lunar.
Although the vineyards are located in the Rioja Baja, the lower and hotter area of Rioja, the winery is unique in that it is located at a very high altitude (approximately 800 metres). This ensures slow ripening and a high variation in temperature from day to night, which builds acidity and complexity in his wines.
