The name Shiraz became popular for the Syrah grape variety in Australia, where it has long been established as the most grown dark-skinned variety. Nowadays, Shiraz is generally the name given to more fruit-forward, spicy styles of Syrah, especially in Australia but also occasionally in South Africa.
Winemaker Chris Thomas (C.T.) selected his favourite barrels to produce this elegant Shiraz. Fruit is a blend of the two estate terroirs of Dowie Doole; the sandy soils of Blewitt Springs and the ancient rocks of Tatachilla. This Shiraz is matured for 24 months in second year or older French (80%) & American (20%) hogshead oak barrels.
Black cherries and vanilla with liquorice and spice on the nose. Velvety tannins and hints of dark chocolate give way to a harmonious palate of rich berry fruits and pepper with a lingering and refined finish.
Now sourced exclusively from Kingston Estate’s vineyard in Clare Valley, this wine is superb. Clare Valley is one of Australia’s oldest wine producing areas. The Clare’s combination of geography, geology and climate is synonymous for producing high quality wines. The 2019 vintage finished with smaller berry size and lighter crops as a result of lower than average rainfall.
Medium/dark red with a vibrant purple hue. The nose has a lifted bouquet with the Shiraz fruit expressing hints of plum, clove and pepper. Notes of vanilla and mocha have been added from the use of oak. On the palate the fruit from the nose follows with the luscious flavours of plum and vanilla giving the wine a long, lingering finish.
