Tasting Notes
Villargeau vineyards are in very close proximity (slightly up river) to those of Sancerre & Pouilly Fume. The result are wines similar in character, but considerably lower in price. Sauvignon Blanc responds well when growing in flint and chalk soils.
Pale yellow with silvery green highlights. The nose elicits notes of candied apricots and citrus. In the mouth, spicy vanilla notes reinforce the aromatic profile, The wine displays a Sancerre-like minerality and grainy texture.
Third Party Reviews
The aromas play between rich stone fruit and juicy pineapple, yielding to a fresh mouthful that has texture and racy acidity to balance the rich fruit. This 2022 is promising, with the potential to improve further with more time in bottle. The vines are planted mainly on flinty clay (75%) with the rest on clay-limestone. The grapes were harvested by machine and fermentation was in stainless steel and then five months on fine lees. The domaine, which was created in 1991, now has 23 hectares, and this is the first vintage to be certified organic. Drink 2023-2030 Decanter 92 Points 03/23
