Tasting Notes

All three wines in today’s mixed case come from Domaine de la Villaudiere, a small 15-hectare estate owned by Jean Marie Reverdy and Sons overlooking the pretty village of Verdigny. This unique location offers stunning views of the famous Sancerre hill and its vineyards. We think you will enjoy exploring these different expressions of Sauvignon Blanc found in the Loire Valley.

Domaine de la Villaudiere Pouilly-Fumé 2022 :
Like Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé is produced from 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Located on the other side of the Loire River across from Sancerre, the wines are typically a bit rounder and softer than Sancerre and can exhibit a slight smoky character from the flint in the soil. The Villaudiere Pouilly-Fumé shows an intense and complex bouquet of white peach, cut grass, flint and acacia flower. Round and luscious on the medium palate, the finish lingers with flavours of Key lime and a distinct a crisp, saline “wet stone” character.

Domaine de la Villaudiere Sancerre 2022
Sancerre, in the upper Loire Valley, is the benchmark for Sauvignon Blanc in Europe – crisp and fruity, with racy acidity. The soil is composed of limestone and fossilized seashells, which gives the wine an unmistakable mineral note.  This wine displays a limpid, pale yellow hue with golden highlights. Expressive on the nose, combining floral fragrances with aromas of white peach and exotic fruit (pineapple, passion fruit). Well-balanced and honest on entry, the wine is underpinned by freshness and depth, with a long-lasting zesty acidity on the finish.

Domiane de la Villaudiere Sancerre “Silex” 2021:
Silex is a selection of Villaudiere’s oldest vines planted on clay-flint hillsides of Ménétréol-sous-Sancerre and Sancerre. This area has rare silex soils with a higher proportion of flint which continues into the communes of Pouilly Fumé.

The Domaine de la Villaudiere Sancerre “Silex” is an elegant yet expressive wine with a very intense aromatic bouquet that was encouraged by 5 months aging on the lees. It shows notes of white flowers and green herbs with bright citrus fruit, green peppercorn and a touch of smoke. The palate is quite full-bodied and well rounded with remarkable charisma and age-worthiness.
