    Mixed Case – Codorniu Sampler

Founded in 1551, Codorniu is the oldest winery in Spain and one of the longest continuously operating companies in the world. It has undergone many challenges and changes over the centuries, but one of the most significant was in 1659 when Anna di Codorniu married Miquel Raventós and brought together two of the great winemaking families of Spain. In homage to his wife’s family Miquel, in spite of traditional practice, kept the company name Codorniu. More than 200 years later, their descendant, Josep Raventós, would go on to become the creator of cava using the traditional method of fermentation in the bottle.

Yannick Martin, who took over from his father in 2014, still uses exclusively cow manure as fertilizer, today, though the cattle are gone from the property.

In addition, the limestone rich soils contain marine fossils of tiny pentracines (star fish). Aged for 18 months in oak barrels (70% new), it displays a deep golden hue in the glass. On the nose the wine exhibits intense aromas of baked golden apple and ripe pear with notes of spice, honey, hazelnuts and vanilla.
