Tasting Notes
The grapes for the 2019 Domaine La Roubine, “La Grange de Briguières” Sablet are sourced from vineyards averaging about 30 years of age are located on the “Briguières” hillsides which border the cru of Gigondas. The soils here contain a higher percentage of clay and produce fuller bodied and longer lived wines than is typical for the appellation.
The Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault grapes for the blend are all farmed organically and undergo very strict sorting before they enter the winery. Fermentation takes place over 30 days in traditional in concrete tanks. The wine is then matured for 8 months in large oak barrels with bâtonnage (stirring of the lees) once per month. The wines are bottled unfiltered to preserve the pure expression of the terroir.
This Sablet is a deep, dense purple in the glass. Aromas come to mind of ripe figs, violets, tapenade, licorice and black pepper. On the palate the wine is rich, concentrated and full bodied with great structure and a long complex finish that signifies it will improve with bottle age. If opening now, it would be best to decant for 1 to 2 hours prior to serving.
