Tasting Notes
We have selected three Madeiras from my friend Paul Miles’ family stocks. The Miles brand has been around for nearly 200 years and is a specialist in the production of Madeira from Tinta Negra. There are a range of ages and styles so that you can try them with different occasions in mind. A case contains 2 bottles of each of the following:
Miles 5 Year Old Medium Dry
Topaz colour with golden reflections. Characteristic madeira bouquet of dried fruits, orange peels and notes of wood. Medium dry at first, followed by an attractive freshness of citrus flavours, with a long, luxurious finish. Excellent a an aperitif with olives, almonds, serano ham or cream soups. 70 g/l residual sugar 19% alc
Miles 10 Year Old Dry
Pale, bright topaz colour with a golden tinge, fresh with dry fruits, wood and citrus flavours with a fresh and nutty persistent finish. It pairs with smoked fish like salmon, sword fish, tuna or black scabbard, shellfish, sushi or fish mousses. It is delicate and so a good match with fresh goat’s or sheep cheeses. 50 g/l residual sugar 19% alc
Miles 15 Year Old Medium Rich
This barrel-aged, Medium Rich Madeira shows great complexity and intensity. Smokey and rich with hints of spices and dried fruits, with a long lingering aftertaste. It is a superb accompaniment to dessert dishes, especially fruit, cakes, chocolate puddings and soft cheeses. 95 g/l residual sugar 19% alc
