Tasting Notes
From Biondi Santi’s Castello di Montepo Estate with vineyards located on the Etruscan Coastal area of Maremma, comes Sassoalloro ORO. The family is credited with starting what we now know as Brunello di Montalcino, and it is the family’s Sangiovese clone BBS11 which was the seed for all of this. This wine is 100% BBS11 Sangiovese clone.
The flagship wine for the Montepo estate is the Super Tuscan red named Sassoalloro. It was first produced in 1991 and to celebrate its 30th anniversary the family decided to create Sassoalloro Oro – a small production, single vineyard expression of their flagship wine. The 6 hectare vineyard named “Aia di Clemente”, is situated on a steep slope of highly stressed and low yielding vines.
It is a wine with a brilliant ruby red color, with shades tending to violet. The nose opens with fresh and fruity scents, enriched with pleasant notes of violet. In the mouth it is soft and velvety, with an extremely long finish. Overall, it is a very elegant wine, with an excellent longevity potential: from 20 to 30 years. The unmistakable flavor of BBS11 makes it a harmonious and complex wine.
