Tasting Notes

Having trouble finding new patio furniture or appliances?  Can’t repair your mountain bike or car because parts are back-ordered?  Welcome to the “Global Shipping Blues”!  Everyone has stories about what they cannot source, or how much it now costs to source items. Not surprising, then, that bringing in your favorite wines has been a challenge as well.

The really good news! Some shipping routes are less affected by this crisis. To celebrate this fact, our mixed case this week provides some very drinkable wines from the northern hemisphere. Each case contains 2 bottles of 6 different wines.

Elouan 2019 Chardonnay (Oregon, USA) :

Beautiful aromas of grapefruit, citrus, and honeysuckle accompanied by notes of violet and apricot. Bright and lively acidity with rich flavors of apple, pear, stone fruit, lemon, and juicy peach. Smooth and well-balanced mouth-feel, with a lingering and bright finish. Barrel fermented in French oak (50% new).

Zanatta 2020 Vermentino di Gallura DOCG “Renadoro” (Sardinia, Italy) :

An intense nose of floral, exotic fruit, orange oil and a hint of spices. The palate is dry and crisp while displaying notes of yellow apple, apricot and lemon verbena. Medium body and solid acidity. 13.5% alc.

Domaine Saint Michel 2019 Cotes du Rhone (Southern Rhone, France) :

Alluring notes of raspberry preserve, violet and pronounced notes of dried thyme and rosemary accent this sun-drenched Grenache (50%), Carignan (30%) and Syrah/ Mourvèdre (20%) blend. Baked black-cherry and grape-jelly flavors are hedonistic and dense. Supple, silky texture is contrasted by pleasantly ripe gripping tannins and lingering notes of earth and spice on the finish.

Sandhill 2018 Syrah (BC, Canada) :

Purple garnet colour with a lovely bouquet of black cherry, leather, earth, spice box and oak. This is a dry, full-bodied wine with soft tannins and a juicy, smooth mouthfeel. Blackberry and black cherry fruit accented by coffee and spice fill the mouth. The extra-dry lingering finish shows notes of blackberry, black currant, black coffee and spice.

James Mitchell 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon (Lodi, California) :

Full-bodied and fruit forward, this robust and flavourful wine is all about honest to goodness ripe blackberry and dark cherry, warm spice, smoky mocha and vanilla from oak aging. The tannins are well-integrated and the finish is nice and long.

La Quercia 2017 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo (Abruzzo, Italy) :

La Quercia (The Oak). One of the best, most expressive and balanced Montepulciano’s around. Full-bodied, smooth, and packed with notes of blackberry, wild cherry, chocolate and spice.
