Tasting Notes
Viña Pomal Reserva follows the classical model of Bodegas Bilbainas Reserva wines. It is made according to a traditional Rioja process: a moderately long maceration time and, after alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, the wine is decanted and clarified slightly before being moved to casks. Then the wine is aged in semi new American oak casks for 18 months. After its time in the cask, the wine will rest for two years in the bottle before going to market.
There are clean, intense aromas on the nose with prevailing notes of ripe cherry and plum flavors intermingled with tobacco, truffle and vanilla. The palate shows a supple, smooth texture with a long finish.

Third Party Reviews
“This plush red offers ripe cherry and plum flavors, with licorice, vanilla and spice notes backed by orange peel acidity and well-integrated tannins. Harmonious, fresh and lively. Drink now through 2028. 1,000 cases imported.” Thomas Matthews for Wine Spectator’s “Smart Buys” Designation, 92 points
“Cinnamon, clove and oak-spice aromas frame notes of berries and citrus peels on the nose. A full palate feels a touch oily and creamy, while this tastes of savory, lightly salted plum and berry fruits. The saltiness carries over to a well-formed finish. Drink through 2025.” Michael Schachner for Wine Enthusiast, 91 points
