Tasting Notes

We present an outstanding representation of Loire Valley wines that are often overlooked in our market. Last time we offered this mixed case it was very well received.

2023 Baudry-Dutour Le Petit Lieu-Dit Sauvignon Blanc:
Baudry-Dutour spent significant time and effort searching for a terroir to produce Sauvignon Blanc. In 2012 they planted vines in the territory of Ligré south of the Vienne River in a place called lieu-dit Rouilly. Here the clay/limestone soils and vineyards with south-east exposure seemed ideal for the variety. Grapes are harvested at night and vinification takes place in stainless steel to preserve freshness. This is classic Loire Sauvignon Blanc, clean and vibrant with aromas of lychee, citrus, green herbs and white flowers.

Lively acidity and a mouth-watering palate make this a perfect pairing with grilled fish, asparagus or savoury tarts. Now certified organic production. Less than 1 gr/l RS 12% Alc.

2023 Château de La Grille, Chinon Rosé:
Produced from a 40-year-old vineyard, this rosé is made by a direct pressing of the Cabernet Franc grapes and a brief maceration on the skins of 12 to 24 hours to give the wine its creamy pink colour. Fermentation takes place at low temperatures to preserve the aromas of the grape and aging is carried out in stainless steel on the lees with frequent battonage (stirring). This second process conveys richness and body to the wine. A perfect wine for a summer day. The beautiful, pale pink colour prepares you for an explosion of just picked ripe red fruits and creamy lactic notes that captivate the nose and linger on the palate.

Serve with spring vegetable salads, carpaccio, sushi or just enjoy as an aperitif. Less than 2 gr/l RS 12% Alc.

2022 Domaine du Roncée, Chinon Clos des Marronniers:
The “Clos des Marronniers” Chinon is produced from a 7-hectare limestone and gravel vineyard (certified High Environmental Value) on the alluvial plain of the Vienne River. The 40+ year old Cabernet Franc vines are meticulously tended and are hand harvested at peak ripeness. Maturation of the wine takes place 50% in stainless steel tank and 50% in oak barrels of 2 to 15 years old. Expect a full and lively wine with a deep garnet colour. Aromas are of blackcurrant and morello cherry, complimented by vanilla notes from the barrel aging. The palate displays cherry, raspberry, liquorice with lingering smooth tannins and a hint of cocoa on the finish.

It will continue to age gracefully for another 10 years and can be enjoyed with beefsteak or seared duck breast. Less than 1 gr/l RS 13% Alc.
