Tasting Notes

The Southern Italian Sampler case takes you on a walk through some of the iconic varieties of southern Italy.

Schola Sarmenti Primitivo Critera 2021 (Puglia) :
This beautiful Primitivo wine shows perfumed aromas of plum, dark cherry, sweet herbs, cocoa, licorice and leather are accompanied by a palate bursting with milk chocolate, toffee, and blackberry fruit. Full bodied in style, the palate is soft with mellow acidity. It is rich, round, juicy and expressive with considerable length.

Schola Sarmenti Nardo Riserva Nerio 2019 (Puglia) :
Comprised of 80% Negroamaro and 20% Malvasia Nera from 50-year-old vineyards. The bouquet is complex with aromas of dark red fruit, coffee, chocolate, leather and sweet spicy notes enveloped in subtle oak. The palate reminds of very ripe red fruits and is pleasant, smooth and very long.

Massimo Lentsch Etna Rosso San Teodoro 2019 (Sicily) :
The Nerello Mascalese grapes for this wine come from a 60-year-old vineyard on the northern slopes of Mount Etna. A bright ruby-red colour with a touch of purple. The nose displays exquisite aromas of blueberry and strawberry along with hints of mountain herbs, allspice, cloves and a harmonious mineral note. The palate is well structured and savory with a lingering finish of fine character and elegance.

Alovini Aglianico del Vulture Le Ralle 2019 (Basilicata) :
Composed of 100% Aglianico grapes, this is a medium to full-bodied, elegant and balanced wine. Deep ruby red in colour with black cherry and plum notes accompanied by hints of spice and earthiness. Delicate aromas of violet, currant and raspberry on the nose compliment structured tannins that become more elegant with age.

Cantine Rallo Insolia Bianco di Evro 2021 (Sicily):
Produced from 100% Insolia grapes that are organically grown in their estate vineyards around the territory of Alcamo. A yellow straw colour, expect a dry white wine that displays a bouquet of apricot, pear, apple and citrus fruit with hints of bees wax and white flowers. Rich and full in the mouth with great texture and a salted honey finish.

Zanatta Vermentino di Gallura Renadoro 2022 (Sardinia) :
The “Gallura” designation denotes that the Vermentino grapes all come from vineyards in an area of granite soils in the north of Sardinia. Zanatta’s Vermentino di Gallura shows a pale lemon colour with aromas of fresh herbs and white flowers. The palate has zippy acidity with flavours of pear, grapefruit and some tropical fruits, with considerably weight and a stony mineral note to the finish.
