Tasting Notes

In this Red Explorer 2 case we spotlight six exceptional wine regions. For the first time in a mixed pack, we are offering 2 recent additions to our portfolio, Storyteller Sonoma Cab and a delicious new wine from Montepeloso called “Alpha”. This mixed case is a great way to revisit some old favourites and “test drive” some soon to be favourites!

$294.60 case of 12 bottles; 2 bottles of 6 different wines (Avg. $24.55 a bottle)

Storyteller Cabernet Sauvignon 2019, Sonoma County, California:
Classic Sonoma Cabernet showing aromas of earthy cedar, black cherry and vanilla. On the palate the wine is best described as ripe and round with chewy, dark fruit, with toasty notes, accented with hint of pipe tobacco. Medium to full bodied with balanced acidity, it is sure to please!

Montepeloso Alpha 2020, Toscana IGT, Italy:
A blend of Sangiovese (55%), Cabernet Sauvignon (35%), and Malvasia Nera (10%) fermented in French oak and aged an additional 8 months in casks of varying sizes. The result is substantial, yet approachable, with terrific balance of fruit, oak aging and acidity.  Dense aromas of rich black fruit and subtle oak are on display and the wine ends with a lingering silky finish.

Sandhill Syrah 2020 Okanagan Valley, BC:
A dry, full-bodied wine with soft tannins and a juicy, smooth mouth-feel. Blackberry and black cherry fruit accented by coffee and spice fill the mouth. The lingering finish shows notes of blackberry, black currant and coffee.

Racine Pinot Noir 2021, Languedoc, France:
Light to medium ruby colour with a moderately intense nose of red berries and boiled candy. The palate is medium bodied with generous red berries, black licorice and some cake spice. Tannins are very soft and there is good acidity, making this a very food-friendly wine.

Domaine St-Michel Côtes du Rhône 2020, Rhône Valley, France:
Alluring notes of raspberry preserve and violet with fragrance of dried thyme and rosemary accent this sun-drenched Grenache/Syrah/Carignan blend. Baked black-cherry and peppery flavors are hedonistic and dense. The supple, silky texture is contrasted by pleasantly ripe gripping tannins and a lingering hint of earthiness on the finish.

Schola Sarmenti Primitivo “Critera” 2020, Puglia, Italy:
This wine really delivers on the palate, bursting with sumptuous dark cherry and blackberry fruit. Rich, round, juicy, and expressive with a silky finish. Drink now but be sure to save a few bottles to see how it develops.
