Tasting Notes

For our last mixed case of 2023 we are going to California for a selection of wines that represent the State’s most celebrated varieties of red wine. These big, bold and rich wines are sure to deliver a dose of sunshine to brighten that sky (sorry they can’t help with the leaves).

$233.70 case of 6 bottles (Avg. $38.95 a bottle); 2 btls of each wine.

Storyteller, Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 (Sonoma County):

Produced from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon firmly rooted in Sonoma (40% Sonoma Valley, 45% Sonoma County and 15% Paso Robles), the wine spends 12 months in medium toast French oak barrels.
A classic Sonoma Cab, that is a rich, dark purple/ruby in the glass. The bouquet is marked by cassis, black cherry and crushed violet aromas along with hints of pipe tobacco and toasty vanilla oak. Flavours of juicy damson plum and dark chocolate compliment a round and chewy palate.

Belle Glos, Pinot Noir “Balade” 2022 (Santa Rita Hills):

The term Balade is French for “wandering”. Each year the winemakers at Bell Glos uses this wine to highlight a particular vineyard site that they think has produced exceptional and interesting wine in a given vintage.
Dark violet in color with aromas of dark fruit and toasted brioche with a hint of baking spice. Bold and sophisticated on the palate with blackberry, boysenberry, French toast, black pepper, and a trace of cinnamon. This wine is beguiled with complexity and a light refreshing approach, yet not overly bold on the palate. Aged for 12 months in French oak (60% new).

Seghesio, Zinfandel “Angela’s Table” 2021 (Sonoma County):

The Seghesio family have deep roots in Sonoma, first planting Zinfandel vineyards in 1895. Having produced over 125 vintages, they are now guided by the 5th generation of the family.

“Angela’s Table” is sourced from Sonoma County and is perhaps the most representative product of the winery. It is produced from Zinfandel (approximately 90%) and a dose of Petite Sirah and a smattering of other complimentary red grapes. It is then aged for aged for 10 months in new American oak (7%) and neutral French and American oak barrels (93%).

The resulting wine shows a bouquet of cedar, spice, and sun-ripened blackberries ensuring a strong first impression. Bold and richly textured on the palate with an intensity and purity of fruit reflected in notes of wild blueberries, plum, and black currants. A dusting of tannins provides structure and a long finish that is buoyed by fresh juicy acidity.
