Château de la Liquière “Nos Racines” Faugères 2020:

The 2020 Château de la Liquière “Nos Racines” Faugères is obtained from Carignan (90%) and Grenache (10%) vineyards that are over 100 years old! The certified organic vineyards are at the highest altitudes of the appellation (up to 350 metres). Because of the steepness of the vineyards all harvesting must be carried out by hand. Fermentation and aging take place solely in stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness and elegance of the wine. These wines are produced with minimal intervention. For all of the above reasons… the wines allow the fruit to sing!!!

We were struck by the very deep and impenetrable purple colour of this wine. The bouquet is intense with dark fruit aromas of blackberry and plum followed by scents of violets, dark chocolate and baking spices. The palate is smooth and concentrated with pure back fruit flavours and silky-smooth tannins (14.5% alc.). Particularly delicious with roast or grilled lamb.

Domaine Gérard Courbis Saint Joseph Vieilles Vignes 2020:

Domaine Gérard Courbis is a boutique winery based in the village of Mauves (bordering Cornas) that makes some very elegant traditional expressions of Northern Rhône Syrah. Ludovic and Emmanuel (sons of late Gérard) now run this small family business. Their organically farmed vines (average 40 years) are rooted deep in steep granite slopes along high lying terraces which allow for only hand picking. This exceptional terroir enables the Courbis’ to produce elegant wines displaying tremendous freshness and perfume with a savory edge.

The estate’s Saint-Joseph Vieilles Vignes is a selection from their finest of old vines. This cuvée is aged for 24 months in a combination of barriques and larger oak barrels. Expressing the essence of hillside vineyards, the wine features savory aromas of smoked meat, olives and garrigue with hints of violets and blackberry. Concentrated red and black fruit on the palate leads to complex nuances of leather, graphite and pepper. The finish is long and smooth with feather-like tannins and soft integrated oak (14.5% alc.). A real treat!

Domaine de la Guicharde Massif d’Uchaux Cuvee Genest 2019:

The Domaine de la Guicharde was founded in 1988 by Isabel and Arnaud Guichard when they acquired 15 hectares of vines in the hamlet of Derboux at the top of the Massif d’Uchaux. In 2017 the property, which had grown to 40 hectares, was purchased by Didier Perréol owner of the French organic food company Ekibio, who also owns the adjoining property of Château de Massillan. His goal is to continue the Guichard’s vision of organic production while further developing the brand and the tourist potential of the property.

The 2019 Massif d’Uchaux Cuvée Genest is a blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah organically grown on the estate’s oldest hillside vineyards. After manual harvesting, the wine is matured in neutral tanks for 18 months before bottling. A dense purple colour in the glass, the bouquet is ripe and powerful with scents of macerated red and black fruits, cocoa, purple flowers and herbs de Provence. An intense and concentrated palate with considerable weight in the mouth leads to a long, well-balanced finish (15.5% alc.).
