Tasting Notes

We present a mixed case of affordable Cabs from Australia and California. We have touted the great value in Australia in recent years, but California is no slouch and remains an extremely popular region for Cabernet Sauvignon. Here is a rare opportunity to have your own “taste off” in Cabernet Stadium and see whose Cab reigns supreme!

Kingston Estate 2020 (Clare Valley)
Grapes are grown in mature vineyards, some of which are up to 40 years old. Expect a rich and full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with aromas of intense dark fruit, complimented by rich cassis and layers of sweet vanilla oak. The palate shows ripe black currant with spice and nice firmness of tannins on the finish.

Dowie Doole 2019 (McLaren Vale)
Vineyards are certified Organic and are in process of conversion to biodynamic farming. After a complex winemaking procedure that involves a lengthy process of “pumping over”, the wine is left to rest in a combination of 90% French (16% new) and 10% older American oak for 20 months. The finished wine shows a deep red colour with hues of vibrant crimson. Aromas of blue and black fruit are framed by notes of eucalyptus, Chinese five spice, cloves and cedar. The palate is classic McLaren Vale with fine chalky tannins and a subtle leafy note on the finish.

Parkers Estate 2021 (California)
The 2021 Parkers Estate Cabernet Sauvignon was night harvested from select vineyards and fermented in stainless steel for 14 days before being transferred to French oak barrels where it matured for 16 months. A dark purple colour in the glass, the bouquet shows distinct notes of black cherry, raspberry, pomegranate with hints of clove and vanilla. These flavours carry over to the generous palate with well managed tannins and a lingering finish.

Storyteller 2020 (Sonoma County)
Produced from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon appellations (40% Sonoma Valley, 45% Sonoma County and 15% Paso Robles), the wine spends 12 months in medium toast French oak barrels. A classic Sonoma Cab, that is a rich, dark purple/ruby in the glass. The bouquet is marked by cassis, black cherry and crushed violet aromas along with hints of pipe tobacco and toasty vanilla oak. Flavours of juicy damson plum and dark chocolate compliment a round and chewy palate.
