Tasting Notes

We offer this mixed case of 3 red wines from some of France’s most popular appellations: Burgundy, Bordeaux and the Southern Rhône Valley. These full-bodied styles are perfect to pair with a variety of richer dishes as we move into fall and winter.

Domaine Thenard, Givry 1er Cru
‘Cellier Aux Moines’ 2018 (Burgundy):

The warm and dry vintage in 2018 has made for fruit driven and juicy red wines that will provide immediate enjoyment but will also age gracefully. Always an incredibly dependable Burgundy, the 2018 Givry 1er Cru ‘Celliers Aux Moines’ features a vibrant and deep ruby colour with an intense fruit bouquet of black cherries, raspberries, spice and forest floor. There is an abundance of pure fruit on the palate with silky and well-developed tannins. The finish is lush and lingering with great persistence and an earthiness.

Château du Courlat, Lussac Saint Émilion 2020 (Bordeaux):

The wine is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc that is matured in a combination of 35% stainless steel, 35% concrete vats and 30% first and second use French oak barrels. Expect a dark purple wine with open and forward aromas of sweet plum, red berries and a hint of vanilla. The wine is plush and round in the mouth with lingering black cherry, cassis, dark chocolate and cedar notes. It will continue to develop in the bottle over the next decade.

Domaine de la Guicharde, Massif d’Uchaux ‘Cuvée Genest’ 2019 (Rhône Valley):

The 2019 Massif d’Uchaux Cuvée Genest is a blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah organically grown on the estate’s oldest hillside vineyards. After manual harvesting, the wine is matured in neutral tanks for 18 months before bottling. A dense purple colour in the glass, the bouquet is ripe and powerful with scents of macerated red and black fruits, cocoa, purple flowers and herbs de Provence. An intense and concentrated palate with considerable weight in the mouth leads to a long, well-balanced finish (15.5% alc.). The Cuvée Genest is certified by Demeter as adhering to biodynamic production standards.
