Tasting Notes
The estate’s top Saint-Joseph bottling is the Saint-Joseph Vieilles Vignes. It is a selection from their finest old vines (over 60 years) that is meticulously sorted and fully de-stemmed. It receives an extended maceration of 3 to 4 weeks. Finally, an 18-month aging period in secondhand barrels and demi-muids gives the wine all its aromatic richness and great aging potential.
Expressing the essence of hillside vineyards, this dense, inky wine features aroma of smoked meat, olives and garrigue with hints of violets, blackberry and licorice. Concentrated fleshy, red and black fruit on the palate leads to complex nuances of leather, graphite, tobacco and pepper. The youthful nature of the wine is reflected in the firm tannins with great structure and exceptional length. It will benefit from decanting if consumed now and will mature gracefully with proper cellaring.
