Tasting Notes
Château Clos du Roy is a twin property of Chateau Piada which is based on one of the oldest vineyards in Sauternes and Barsac, dating back to the 13th Century. These labels are part of an 8.22 hectare estate which maintains a traditional culture and winemaking, including pruning and harvesting by hand. In addition to their sweet Barsac of Chateau Piada, for which they are most well-known, the estate also produces this dry wine as Chateau Le Clos du Roy, a blend of mostly Sauvignon Blanc, with Semillon (15%) and Muscadelle (15%) under the Graves appellation.
The juice is pressed and left to macerate on the skins for 18 hours, after which the Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle go into stainless steel vats and the Semillon into new oak barriques for fermentation. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 5 to 6 months, again in new oak barrels. The resulting wine is very aromatic and fruity, with spicy and toasty notes. The palate is fresh and fruity, with bright acidity, yet made more serious by the oak notes which lend cardamom, coriander and sandalwood tones. Quite full in the mouth with a long and satisfying finish. Just 8000 bottles produced. 13.5% alc
