Tasting Notes

McLaren Vale, Australia! Do not underestimate the depth and richness of flavours of these Dowie Doole wines! If big, juicy, New World, fruit forward wines are your preference, you should not ignore this very limited mixed case – just 18 x 6 packs are available

Dowie Doole is a story of two terroirs and time.  Their home – McLaren Vale, South Australia – has unique, ancient sites that produce world class wines. Dowie Doole’s Estate Vineyards are located in two of McLaren Vale’s most prized terroirs; the sandy soils of Blewitt Springs and the ancient rocks of Tatachilla.  With geology as old as 650 million years, this region possesses some of the oldest geology in the world, where vineyards are present.

Dowie Doole – 2017 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon: Cabernet Sauvignon is a favoured variety in McLaren Vale where the climate is suited to growing fruit that produces rich, full bodied and age-worthy wines.

Fruit sourced exclusively from their two McLaren Vale Estate Vineyards; the sandy soils of Blewitt Springs and the ancient rocks of Tatachilla is used to produce the Dowie Doole Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Special sites in their own right, each vineyard contributes unique characters to the finished wine.

Dark red with a vibrant red/purple hue. Lifted Cabernet notes of blue and black fruits, eucalyptus leaf, spices and pencil shavings. The palate displays the hallmark traits of McLaren Vale Cabernet; blackcurrant and cassis, dark chocolate, lifted aromatics, elegant, and fine tannins.

Dowie Doole – 2019 B.F.G. Grenache: B.F.G. (Big Friendly Grenache) is sourced from Dowie Doole’s oldest bush vine Grenache planted in 1965. The block is located at their Cali Rd Vineyard in the sub-region of Tatachilla. The wine is crafted using the gentlest handling possible, de-stemmed not crushed, and open fermented using only hand plunging. The maturation in neutral oak is kept short to preserve the characteristic, natural perfume of delicate fruits and of the Grenache varietal.
.
A lifted bouquet expressing hallmark Grenache characters; strawberry, raspberry and boiled lollies. The palate shows the crunchy red fruit with a gentle tannin line adding length.

Dowie Doole – Moxie Sparkling Shiraz: And now for something completely different!

This is a blend of various vintages. The base is made from Shiraz wines from 1995 – 2012 vintages. These wines have been used like a solera system with a portion of the older material used in the blend to give the wine depth and wonderful richness on the palate. To increase the complexity of this sparkling shiraz a base wine blend is kept from vintages as far back as 1996. This base is stored in old oak hogsheads on a bed of Chenin Blanc yeast lees to aid mouth-feel.

Very deep, rich crimson in colour. Notes of blackberry and cherry fruits, spice box and a little pepper. Dark fruits carry through onto the rich, velvety, long and slightly sweet but not cloying palate.
