Tasting Notes

Chateau Tour Granins is the second wine of Chateau Granins Grand Poujeaux. The estate is bordered by two very highly regarded estates within the same Grand-Poujeaux hamlet: Chateau Poujeaux and Chateau Chasse Spleen.

This wine is made from younger vines of the estate. It shows a deep and intense red color, with aromas of red fruits and some spices resulting from the wood aging (1/3 of which were new barrels). A wine rich in aromas, with melted tannins and an elegant finish.

2012 was not an easy vintage, which basically says it was a classic Bordeaux vintage. Early cool temperatures and rain followed by a hot summer meant that having a good amount of earlier maturing Merlot in your blend (80%) was a good thing.

Just 31,000 bottles produced.

For its ninetieth anniversary, the vineyard offered a superb birthday present to its faithful with this particularly successful 2012. The elegance of its garnet color crossed with purple reflections announcing youth and power is matched by a nascent and gourmet bouquet of slightly candied blackcurrant and blackberry, violet and leather. The palate confirms this intensity with a minty, lively and invigorating attack, then a beautiful and long evolution around round and fine tannins, supported by a soft woody note which testifies to a very careful aging.
