It has pleasant strawberry, cherry and plum aromas with hints of leather, autumn leaves and asian spice. The palate is vibrantly fruity and lightly tannic. Campolieti means “happy fields” and refers to the vineyards from which the grapes are harvested. The wine is a traditional blend of the Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grape varietals that has had a second fermentation on the pressings of the Amarone grapes (a process called “ripasso”).
Best with roast or stewed red meat. Also with pasta, risotto, calamari, bolognese with mushroom

The Righetti Campolieti Valpolicella Ripasso, Classico Superiore is a ruby colour. Faint notes of black fruit, but there’s some blackberry, graphite, and sweet cranberry. The oak is more prominent, yet never distracting. The palate presents some gentler black fruit and chocolate malt framed by more new oak than the [Righetti Ripasso Selezione]. A more diffused and less concentrated wine, which may be more your style. This gives it more range with pasta, cheese, and chicken in tomato sauce dishes. Score 88, Square Media Group, June 2016
