St. Laurent is one of Austria’s classic varietals and a staple of Zahel’s red wine production. This wine is produced from grapes grown in the Maurerberg region, located in the southwestern corner of Vienna. Influenced by both the cool Viennese forest to the west and the warmer Thermenregion to the south, the area’s unique microclimate provides a foundation for elegant red wines. This wine is cultivated biodynamically and harvested 100% by hand before being fermented for 2 weeks in 500 liter oak barrels.
St Laurent is a grape very similar in flavour and structure to Pinot Noir. Intense sour cherry fruit combine with savoury notes on the nose and palate for a perfectly balanced tone. The finish is nuanced with velvety tannins and a lingering fruity taste.
Great match for salmon, duck or mushroom-based dishes.
