The introduction of Bordeaux grape varieties to Friuli, Italy, is generally credited to French agronomists and viticulturists who were brought to the region during the 19th century. This effort was part of a broader wave of experimentation and modernization in Italian viticulture. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc thrived in Friuli’s diverse terroirs and complemented the region’s existing native varieties. SAVE $23.22/ 6 btl case!

Over time, these varieties became an integral part of Friuli’s winemaking, contributing to its reputation for high-quality red wines, alongside its renowned whites. Our Tunella mixed case of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc (2 bottles of each) showcase these wonderful international reds. Each variety is harvested at the peak of ripeness from densely planted vineyards of marl and sandstone soil known locally as “ponca’.
All three wines are fermented in stainless steel with frequent pumping over to extract noble tannins from the fermenting must. Maturation is also in stainless to maintain the fresh and distinct aromas and flavours of each the constituent grapes. This mixed case makes for a great comparative tasting allowing one to appreciate the distinct characteristics of each variety.
