Tasting Notes
Pansa Blanca (a local clone of Xarel-lo) is the only varietal in this wine, and this particular clone – Pansa Blanca – is grown only in the very small D.O. of Alella, just outside Barcelona. Xarel-lo is most commonly the lead varietal in blended, sparkling, Cava. However in this case we are excited to present it on its own in this wonderful, still white wine, produced from organically grown vines.
The Raventós de Alella Pansa Blanca is whole cluster pressed and 15% of the wine is cold macerated with the skins to extract aromas. Fermentation is in stainless steel at controlled temperatures to preserve freshness. We were impressed by the intense, fruity character of the wine with a personality all its own. A very pale straw colour, the wine features aromas of lemon zest, orange, yellow plum, lemongrass and white pepper. Medium bodied, the lemony-zesty notes carry onto the palate that has a refreshing touch of almond skin bitterness on the long finish.
Food Pairings
Crab cakes; Vietnamese stir fries; halibut with lemon beurre blanc; grilled vegetables; paella
Third Party Reviews
“A fresh, fruity white with a slightly sweet sensibility, showing dried-mango, lemon and sweet apple aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied with delicious fruit. Some Thai-basil undertones. Drink now.”
