Tasting Notes

Chile is the world’s leading producer of Carmenere. The country’s warm, dry climate and diverse soils provide ideal conditions for this late-ripening grape. Carmenere wines are known for their deep red color, moderate tannins, and flavors of dark fruit, herbs, and a characteristic green bell pepper note.

TerraNoble (est. 1993) has always been a champion of Carmenere. They were one of the first wineries to identify that what they thought was Merlot was actually Carmenere. In 2000 they began a project in the Colchagua Valley to showcase the influence of terroir on this distinctive variety. In this offer we present the fruits of their efforts to highlight the effects of mountain (CA1) and coastal vineyards (CA2). Both wines are vinified in a similar fashion with aging taking place for 16 months in an approximately 40/60 mix of untoasted foudres and new and used 300L French oak barrels.

Mixed Case – Premium Chilean Carménère

ONE VARIETY – TWO DIFFERENT BOTTLINGS FROM COLCHAGUA VALLEY

~ TerraNoble CA1 Carménère Andes 2021
~ Terranoble CA2 Carménère Costas 2021

CA 1 Andes 2021:
From the Los Lingues Vineyard in the valley’s northern sector at the feet of the Andes Mountains. Soils are colluvial and of ancient terrace formation. They are of medium depth and high in organic matter. Loamy to clay-silt with stones below. Elevation 370 metres above sea level.

A deep red colour with violet hues, the wine displays great elegance and outstanding typicity. Intense aromas of raspberry and plum are interspersed with cocoa and jalapeño notes. The wine feels round on the palate, concentrated and unctuous, with a silky texture from soft, ripe tannins and its aging in oak. A long, fruity and persistent finish ends in freshness and great volume. (14.3% Alc., 3.1 gr/L RS)

CA 2 Coasta 2021:
From the Lolol Vineyard 40 KM from the Pacific. Granitic soils mixed with clay and loam, poor in organic material Elevation 100 metres above sea level.

An intense red with purple highlights, this powerful Carmenere feels complex showing an outstanding fruity profile of the variety. Fresh impressions of blackberry/raspberry and soft black pepper notes create tension. Full of life, it feels vibrant, juicy and concentrated on the palate with ripe and profound tannins, married to a long finish and a terrific structure. (14.8% Alc., 3.2 gr/l RS)
