Tasting Notes

Spring has sprung! At least I hope the weather is cooperating when you read this. The Spring Equinox marks the end of a long winter, the emergence of warmer weather and the appearance of green shoots as nature itself comes to life. As wine importers, our spirits are lifted when vignerons send us photos of vine bud break, signaling the start of a new growing season.

In this 6 bottle case, you will receive 2 bottles each of the following 3 wines:

Domaine de la Bastide, “Les Figues” Cotes du Rhone Blanc – 2020: From the Southern Rhone. 45% Viognier, 40% Roussanne, and 15% Clairette. Fifty percent (50%) of the wine is aged briefly in oak, then blended back into the remaining tank wine, just before bottling. Lively aromatics and rich mouth feel display a range of aromatics and flavours, including honey, beeswax, peach, tangerine, apricot, and mango, balanced by subtle spiciness from the wood aging. Some stony minerality and zesty acidity. Medium-bodied wine with a very long finish. This is a great food wine.

Baudry-Dutour, Cuvée “Marie Justine” Rosé – 2019:
Baudry-Dutour has crafted a very pretty wine from Loire Valley Cabernet Franc. This beautiful Rosé is salmon-hued in colour, with intense aromatics of peach and citrus. In the mouth the wine is dry yet exhibits very good fruit concentration.

Domaine de la Guicharde, Massif d’Uchaux Cuvee Genest – 2017: Also from the Southern Rhone Valley. Biodynamically produced, Grenache (60%) and Syrah (40%). The wine shows moderate to deep ruby red colour. A complex and rich mix of aroma’s, including black cherry, tapenade (black olive puree) crab apple, plum, cranberry and stewed strawberry fruit, with subtle licorice and mint. On the palate, the wine mirrors the nose, although the very ripe fruits tend to show a little more of a black nature than the pretty nose would imply. Some salty, black licorice notes on the finish, as well as a bit of alcoholic weight (14.5%).
