Tasting Notes
Schola Sarmenti are Primitivo and Negroamaro specialists, and this mixed case gives you a taste of their incredible and high quality range.
Schola Sarmenti Roccamora 2018, Nardo DOC
Made from 100% Negroamaro 30-year-old vines, handpicked and aged in stainless steel. This wine is fresh and easy drinking. An explosion of spice, leather and tobacco on the nose, the palate follows through with a velvety texture, light tannins and a slightly bitter aftertaste. Excellent with roast and grilled meats, especially lamb. 13.5%
Schola Sarmenti Nerìo 2016, Nardo DOC
80% Negroamaro 20% Malvasia Nera Average of vines 50 years. Meticulous picking and sorting of grapes. Aged 8 months in medium toasted French oak tonneau and 6 months in bottle. This a serious wine, offering generous ripe black fruit and spice on the nose with an evolving, complex palate full of forest floor, baked fruit and espresso. Pairs well with game, lamb, cheese or just to sip on its own after dinner. 14%
Schola Sarmenti Cubardi 2017,Primitivo Salento IGT
A richer version of Primitivo than our always available Critera, this 100% Primitivo from 65-year-old vines sees 6 months in medium toast French oak tonneau and a further 8 months in bottle. This is a massive and luscious red with a warm super ripe nose of berry jam and chocolate. On the palate it is heavy and velvety smooth with big flavours of black fruit, raisin and burnt sugar. Mouthcoating, long and amazing. This is a wine for contemplation. 15%
