Domaine Thenard, Givry 1er Cru “Clos du Cellier Aux Moines’’ 2019 (Burgundy – France):
Always an incredibly dependable Burgundy, the 2019 Givry 1er Cru “Celliers Aux Moines” features a vibrant and deep ruby colour with an intense fruit bouquet of black cherries, raspberries, spice and forest floor. There is an abundance of pure fruit on the palate with silky and well-developed tannins. The finish is lush and lingering with great persistence and an earthiness.

The Clos du Cellier Aux Moines is a south facing predominantly clay vineyard located to the north of the town of Givry. It is very old with records dating back to 1258. It provides an easy drinking style of Burgundy, and has the potential to age for over a decade or more. (14% alc.)

Colognole, ”Riserva del Don” Chianti Rufina Riserva 2017 (Tuscany-Italy):
Expect a rich ruby colour with the nose revealing a complex, balanced amalgam of ripe cherry, raspberry and pungent balsamic notes. Maturation in oak has softened the tannins somewhat, but they are still impressive, serving to extend the palate and contribute to the smooth texture. (14% alc. 0.75 gr/l RS)

The grapes for the Riserva del Don 2017 were sourced from two exceptional vineyards – Le Lastre and Le Rogaie – which lie at varying elevations. In both vineyards the soils are medium clay with a rich gravel component. Yields are low at between 5 and 7 tons per hectare. After harvesting by hand, the grapes underwent a 21-day maceration with frequent punch-downs. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was left to age for 18 months in 20-30 hl French and Slavonian oak casks (70%) as well as 225 lt. French barriques (30%).

Zahel, Blaufränkisch Ried Goldberg Laaerberg 2022 (Vienna-Austria):
A middle cherry red colour in the glass the bouquet opens with scents of raspberry, sour cherry and black tea. The moderate alcohol, well-integrated acidity and soft tannins lead to a long and pleasant finish. (13.5 % alc. 6.1 gr/l RS)

The Goldberg is one of the highest elevation single vineyards in the south-east region of Vienna. The sandy loam and ice-age gravel soils as well as the warmer climate influenced by winds from the south provide ideal conditions for cultivating Blaufränkisch. Grapes are hand harvested and 30% are destemmed before 2 ½ weeks skin contact. Fermentation takes place in previously used 225L barrels. The wine is then aged for 18 months in a combination of 225L French barriques (30%) and large Austrian 600L barrels.
