Tasting Notes

The heartbreak grape, more commonly called Pinot Noir, has brought many a winemaker to their knees. Known for creating some of the worlds most expensive and compelling wines it is also a grape that needs to have a subtle and nurturing touch in both the vineyard and the cellar. In the right hands it can reveal very compelling wines with magnificent character.

In this 6-bottle case, we are offering Pinot Noir from 3 different wine regions: two old world options (Loire Valley and Burgundy,France) as well as one new world option (Oregon). You will receive 2 bottles each of the following 3 wines:

Domaine de la Villaudiere – 2017 Sancerre Heritage Red (Loire Valley, France): With a deep, intense ruby hue, the wine opens with an expressive, harmonious blend of grilled, smoked and toasted aromas with fruity notes (ripe dark berries). On the palate, the wine shows beautiful silky, velvety body with the same lovely blend of red fruit aromas and melted nuances created by well-integrated oak with structure and a long red fruit aftertaste.

Domaine Thenard – 2016 Givry Cellier aux Moines (Burgundy, France): With a southerly exposure, this 3.22 hectare vineyard is a mix of clay and limestone. Oak barrels are used in fermentation bringing about soft and subtle tannins. The “Cellier aux Moines” parcel is very old with records dating back to 1258. With a terrific currant color, and a rich, intense fruit bouquet with aromas of ripe dark berries, this Pinot Noir has lots of sweet, pure fruit on the palate. It is a beautifully balanced, velvety wine that offers good power, back-end persistence and a lingering finish. This is a wine that can be enjoyed after a long aging period.

Archery Summit – 2018 Dundee Hills Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley, Oregon): This wine starts with wild berries and fresh roasted coffee on the nose leading to complex stone fruit flavors and a peppery nuance associated with whole-cluster fermentation. A master juggler, this wine handles tannin, new oak, and minerality with remarkable finesse.
