Tasting Notes

Today we present a mixed case that has been a couple of years in the making. The challenges of shipping during the epidemic may have delayed this special collection of wines from Baudry-Dutour, but we are confident in the quality of the wines and wanted to see it through. A perfect combination of white, rosé and red.

2020 Baudry-Dutour, ‘Le Petit Lieu-Dit’ Sauvignon Blanc:
This is classic Loire Sauvignon Blanc. Clean and vibrant with aromas of lychee, citrus, green herbs and white floral notes. Lively acidity and a mouth-watering palate make this a perfect wine for the Spring and Summer patio weather we all yearn for.

Pairs well with grilled fish, Spring asparagus dishes or savoury tarts.

2020 Château de La Grille, Chinon Rosé:
This might be the loveliest presentation of a rose wine we have seen. Produced from a 40-year-old Cabernet Franc vineyard. The beautiful, pale pink colour prepares you for an explosion of just picked ripe red fruits and creamy lactic notes that captivate the nose and linger on the palate.

Serve with Spring vegetable salads, carpaccio, sushi or just enjoy as an aperitif. Fans of the Baudry-Dutour Marie Justine Rosé should take note!

2018 Domaine du Roncée, Chinon ‘Clos des Marronniers’:
The ‘Clos de Marronniers’ Chinon is produced from a 7-hectare limestone and gravel vineyard with 40+ year old Cabernet Franc vines. Maturation of the wine takes place 50% in stainless steel tank and 50% in oak barrels of 2 to 15 years old. Expect a full and lively wine with a deep garnet colour. Aromas are of blackcurrant and morello cherry, complimented by vanilla notes from the barrel aging. The palate displays cherry, raspberry, liquorice with lingering smooth tannins and a hint of cocoa on the finish. It will continue to age gracefully for another 10 years.

Enjoy this with beefsteak or seared duck breast.
