Move over Nebbiolo! In most premium Piemonte zones, celebrated reds are obtained by planting Nebbiolo in the best vineyards.  But in Monferrato, it has been determined that the grape which responds best to the terroir is Barbera.  And the area within Monferrato recognized for producing the most impressive red is Barbera d’Asti DOCG, with three crus receiving the highest recognition… one of these is NIZZA.  Nizza is known to have the warmest sites in the hilly region of Monferrato, accounting for its ability to maximize ripeness and fruit concentration, elevating Barbera to new heights.

Ceretti Barbera d’Asti Superiore 2016 is ruby red with garnet highlights and intense, full, lingering aromas.  The palate shows a warm and ample texture with notes of wild berry, cherry, cocoa, and nutmeg. 

Ceretti Barbera d’Asti Superiore Nizza 2017 represents the best vineyards in the Ceretti family vineyards. Dense, ruby red in colour with aromas of dark plum and blackberry underpinned by black pepper. On the palate, the spicy and fruity aromas are mirrored, with added notes of cocoa, coffee and herbs.  Tannins are supple and supported by fresh, vibrant acidity. An absolute delight.  As the fruit extraction in Nizza is more intense, the wine receives some oak treatment that not only oxygenates the wine, but also enhances the Barbera character with spicy notes.
