Tasting Notes

Coming to an end: Our 12-bottle mixed case of Graceland’s Cab, Shiraz and Merlot is coming to an end (just a couple of cases left at time of writing).

Still available: We can still offer a 6 bottle case featuring Graceland’s 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2017 Shiraz.

GRACELAND Vineyards is a boutique winery located in the famous South African wine region of Stellenbosch about 50KM east of Cape Town. GRACELAND wines are modern, rich, juicy wines showing the true potential of this wonderful growing zone

Small batch processing, the sourcing of grapes from multiple, nuanced estate-owned micro-climates, and careful and precise canopy management add to the intrigue of these well made wines. The result is big and flavorful wines that are both structured and elegant. All wines are fermented using wild yeast in open cement tanks and bottled un-fined and unfiltered.

2019 Cabernet Sauvignon: The soil is brown and red gravel with a high mineral content that lies on 2 meters of decomposed granite with clay. Post fermentation, the wine was matured for 16 months in French oak with 20% being new. This Cabernet Sauvignon is a stylish and elegant wine with abundant blackberry and dark chocolate aromas. The tannins are well-structured and it should continue to improve in bottle for 7 to 10 years. An excellent accompaniment to beef stews, grilled steaks or hard cheese.

2017 Shiraz: The vineyards consist of two separate blocks (chosen for site specific differences). The soil type is sandstone over decomposed granite, under pinned by clay (known locally as Klapmuts). After fermentation, the wine was matured in French and American oak for 24 months. This Shiraz is elegant and reminiscent of European style Syrah with white pepper, raspberry and strawberry flavours and aromas. a superb pairing with grilled quail or Moroccan style roast lamb shoulder.
