Tasting Notes
Colour Field is an easy drinking assemblage, produced from only estate-grown vines. Merlot is the backbone of the wine and from vines planted in 2003. Eighteen year old Shiraz vines produce wines reminiscent of cooler European style Syrah, with white pepper, abundant raspberries and strawberries. Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a 21 year old block. Small berries contribute to the richness of the wine. The wine is lighter on the palate yet plush red fruit give roundness and warmth.
To quote the winemaker –
“Always Merlot based, blended with Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is as natural as possible, wild yeast fermented, light manual punch downs, with gentle cool maceration. We leave the grapes to express the authentic flavour of the terroir. No new barrels, and a component of the Merlot is made in tank. The wine is not over extracted, but still complex with balance. The playful label, with good price for quality brings a smile to my face and is an interesting drinking experience. A wonderful red wine to be enjoyed slightly chilled on your hot summer days!” – Sue McNaughton
