Tasting Notes
Produced from a blend of Gamay and Pinot Noir obtained from a single mature vineyard (average age of vines 48 years) dominated by clay and limestone soils Expect a wine with an intense raspberry red colour. The nose evokes memories of red fruit such as cherry and raspberry with hints of violet and an earthy complexity. On the palate it is full and mouthwatering with supple tannins and lingering strawberry/raspberry on the finish. A great wine with a wide variety of foods.
Why “Chicago” you ask?
In the 1880’s, the vine louse phylloxera arrived in this region and began to attack the vines. In order to combat the infestation, grape growers had to graft their vines over to resistant American rootstocks. These plants made their way to Europe via Chicago and the crates in which they were shipped were stamped “Chicago”. In tribute to their American saviors, they named this plot “Chicago”.
