Tasting Notes
For the 2022 version of Balade grapes were sourced from a single vineyard in Arroyo Seco. One of the coolest areas for cultivating Pinot Noir in California this vineyard “stole the show” with its fruity flavours, deep colour and amazing complexity.
The “Balade” Pinot Noir is unapologetically “New World”. To achieve boldness, winemaker Joe Wagner cold-soaked the berries for 14 days to soften the skins and allow for ideal extraction. The wine is aged in 100% French oak (60% new) for up to 12 months and racked twice before being bottled without filtration.
Dark purple/violet in color with enticing aromas of cherry, blackberry and vanilla. The entry is mouth-filling, and expansive then segues to a chalky firmness with soft, rounded edges. Flavors of black cherry, blackberry, damson plum and Asian spices can be found on the intense and rich palate. Balanced and structured the acidity contributes to a long, mouthwatering finish.
