Tasting Notes
A complex wine from 3 estate-owned vineyards. Good colour, spicy fruit and pepper on the nose and flavours of berry fruit with fine tannins on the finish make this a full, yet elegant wine. 100% French oak, 25% of which were new barrels.
Fantastically healthy fruit from this vintage, characterized by good conditions with some serious drought impact. Result was a bit more texture and weight being extracted on this vintage.
Why Dangerfield? It is a character’s name from one of Raoul Beaumont’s favorite novels, “The Ginger Man”.
Food Pairings
Spicy red meat – pulled pork or roasted lamb go very well with this wine.
Third Party Reviews
This has an earthy, savory side that brings to mind the Pinot Noirs of Martinborough in New Zealand. About one third whole-bunch fruit, and matured in French oak, 25% new. A creamy lick opens the black cherry and thyme nose. There’s firm, fruity acidity running through the blood-tinged fruit and enough fruit sweetness to balance the savouriness. Great purity and interest – this will age gracefully, but I would enjoy it now. Drink 2020-2025. Score 95, Decanter Magazine, Oct 2020
