Birra Gjulia
Birra Gjulia is the brainchild of Marco and Massimo Zorzettig; the same two brothers behind the exceptional Friuli winery, Tunella. We regularly sell their Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon, Ribolla Gialla and Pinot Nero wines. But on a recent trip to re-connect with the family, we were introduced to their latest project – Birra Gjulia.
We were surprised to find out that the Italian Craft beer movement has been gaining international attention. Not to be outdone by their European neighbours from Germany, Austria, Belgium, etc, the Italian Craft Beer industry has made significant inroads.
Perhaps even more impressive, however, is that Birra Gjulia is one of the first craft “Agricola” breweries, meaning all the raw materials for the beer – the malt, hops, wheat, must, yeast and the pure water coming from Mount Mia Springs – are sourced from their own property.
All Gjulia products are top fermented and bottled without any filtration or pasteurization. The tiny sediments found in the bottle are the result of a natural and traditional process of secondary fermentation in bottle.
