Domaine de la Ranche
Domaine de la Ranche is located in the village of Chenas in the heart of Beaujolais wine region. In the 50s, the Claude Chevalier bought this property. Today, Alexis is the 3rd generation of the Chevalier family to work the vineyards and make wine. The domaine has two separate vineyards. One is located in la Ranche village on the east-facing slopes in Chénas on soils composed of pink granite. The other vineyard is located at a place called “Pérelles” in the commune of Romanèche also facing east just below the famous windmill of the Moulin a Vent appellation. Here the soils are composed of pink limestone. The 12 hectares are planted with Gamay. The harvest is done manually with a 12 to 14 day vinification depending on the vintage. The wine is aged in stainless steel vats to let the Gamay express the best of its fruit flavours.
