Mittnacht Klack

This property has been a favorite of the French for years. Recently, Mittnacht-Klack wines have come to the attention of Americans. In the Wine Buyer’s Guide, Robert Parker, Jr. says of Mittnacht-Klack, they are wines of vivid purity of flavors, vivid perfumes, and strikingly rich and well focused personalities.

He also rates Mittnacht-Klack an Outstanding Producer. Steven Tanzer of The International Wine Cellar writes, (the wines) have a rare degree of aromatic purity and flavor delineation Mittnacht-Klack harvests as late as possible in order to achieve maximal richness and complexity. Bunches are handled very gently, the juice fermented on the fine lees in large, well-used, oak foudres.

All of the domaine’s wines are rich and extremely perfumed. The regular bottlings are among the first of their class and show best with a year or two of bottle age. The grand crus and vendanges tardives are archetypal wines, with explosive aromas. They can be drunk now, but will continue to improve for years, even decades. Special mention should be made of the ‘Cuvée Karine’ designation made from lots submitted to the vendange tardive jury and offering tremendous value.
