Moschofilero is an aromatic pink-skinned white wine variety grown mostly in the Peloponnese region of mainland Greece. Being quite an old variety, there is a lot of clonal variation but attempts are being made to isolate the best versions as new vineyards are being planted. Many growers currently have multiple clones in the same vineyard. Moschofilero can make light rosés and sparkling wines but most versions are white, light-bodied and reasonably fresh with grapey fruit and floral aromas, often around 11% in alcohol. Some more progressive winemakers are experimenting with skin contact and barrel-ageing as well.
