The Clare Valley, lying northwest of both Adelaide and the Barossa Valley, is the northernmost wine region in South Australia. The valley is warm and makes very good Cabernet and Shiraz yet has garnered most of its fame, somewhat counter-intuitively, for its distinct version of Riesling which ages extremely well. Lean and bright when young with a telltale aroma of fresh lime and lime cordial, Clare Valley Riesling takes on a remarkable and quite beguiling aroma of toasted bread as it eases into maturity. Quite unique.
