Pahlmeyer
2012, Jayson Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Valley, USA
Major Grape: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting Notes
With its deep black core and garnet rim, this gorgeous Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon entices with aromas of black cherry, orange zest and a touch of dust. On the palate, layers of cherry, zest and dark cocoa powder coat the mouth while a hint of fresh pine provides an appealing zing. Rich and full-bodied, this wine’s tannins provide a reassuring grip underneath their supple, velvety mouthfeel – an indication of age-worthiness and promise of evolving complexity with years of additional cellaring. Jayson wines exemplify Jayson Pahlmeyer’s unquenchable desire for excellence and cutting-edge winemaking. Produced with the same impeccable standards and winemaking pedigree for which Pahlmeyer is known, Jayson wines are at once luxurious and instantly approachable. The new label showcases the wines’ pedigree and distinction.
Review
Rich, with tiers of explosive dark berry, plum, blueberry and melted black licorice flavors. This is tight and focused, maintaining a laser beam of flavor that pushes past the gripping tannins. Best from 2015 through 2025. 92 points, James Laube, Wine Spectator.
Pahlmeyer
2012, Jayson Chardonnay
Napa Valley, USA
Major Grape: 100% Chardonnay
Tasting Notes
The grapes were hand-sorted and gently whole-cluster pressed. After settling overnight, the juice was racked to barrels for 100% native yeast barrel fermentation followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine was aged in 85% new French oak barrels for eleven months on the lees, which were stirred weekly. Jayson Chardonnay shows brilliant hues of golden straw accompany intense aromatics of honeysuckle, lily, vanilla and fresh melon in this luscious wine. A flush of roasted peaches, buttermilk ice cream and hint of sugared grapefruit are presented on a silky entry and smooth, well-mannered texture. Notes of rich toasted almonds and pecans linger throughout the wine’s long finish.
Review
An alluring nose of vanilla, lime, mineral, toasted grain and licorice. The palate is silky on entry with coconut, vanilla blossoms and lychee with bright and sculpted pear and stone fruit in the core. Nice acidity. Drink 2015--2017. Score 92, Doug Wilder, Purely Domestic Wine Report, December 2014

Tasting Notes
Spottswoode is a family-owned historic vineyard and winery renowned for its exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. Established in 1882 by George Schonewald, the estate is distinguished by the pre-prohibition Victorian home depicted on the wine label. Spottswoode was christened by Mrs. Albert Spotts in 1910 and it was acquired by Mary and Jack Novak in 1972. Mary released Spottswoode’s first Cabernet Sauvignon in 1982, exactly one hundred years after the estate’s founding. Today, Mary’s daughter Beth Novak Milliken manages the winery,
Review
A solid Spottswoode with mint, currants, berries and flowers. Sweet tobacco and rose petals. Full body with silky tannins and a long, long finish. Tangy, energetic and lively. A wine with form, tension and beauty. This is classic California. 89% cabernet sauvignon, 8% cabernet franc and 3% petit verdot. Better in 2016. 95 points, James Suckling, May 15, 2014
