Dowie Doole
2011, Hooley Dooley Red
McLaren Vale, Australia
Major Grape: Cabernet
Tasting Notes
Rich, deep crimson with crimson hue. An aromatic nose dominated by ripe plum, blueberry, cherries, hints of herbaceousness, spice and toasted charry oak. A full bodied palate featuring plum, blueberry, chocolate and spice with a subtle savoury twist, well integrated oak and soft tannins.
Artessa
2011, Elements Cabernet Sauvignon
Sonoma Valley, USA
Major Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting Notes
The grapes for this wine were sourced from several vineyards in Sonoma County where generally warmer temperatures prevail. These vineyards range from mountainside which requires intensive viticulture, including canopy management for proper sun exposure, careful leaf removal and irrigation management to ensure vines achieve even and complete berry ripening to valley floor where uniformity and consistency come more naturally. Hand picked at night and in the early morning hours to ensure they remained cool and intact, the grape clusters were brought from the vineyard where they were de-stemmed and crushed. Following fermentation in stainless steel the wines were transferred to French oak for aging (30% new). The wines stayed in barrel for fourteen months with twice yearly racking prior to blending and bottling. Inviting aromas of lush red fruit aromas of strawberry and red currants with a hint of pepper, all spice, plums and tobacco This smooth, silky wine coats the palate with intense fruit flavors of cherry and cassis. Sweet oak chimes in to create a beautiful harmony, and fine tannins lengthen the supple texture of this well-balanced, full bodied wine.
Review
A sweetly rich wine, this feels healthy and balanced, its earthy tannins creating a mouthwatering and spicy cabernet that would be ideal with a medium-rare burger. Its price makes it tempting for summer cookouts. Score 89, Wine & Spirits
Domaine du Roncee
2014, Cuvee Marie Justine Rosé
Loire, France
Major Grape: Cabernet Franc
Tasting Notes
Salmon-hued colour, intense nose of exotic fruits with aromas of peach and citrus. In the mouth the wine is dry but exhibits very good fruit concentration. Crisp and refreshing yet complex, this rose serves to elevate the experience of white wine drinkers and to convince red wine drinkers that they should expand their horizons!
