Biondi Santi
2009, Brunello di Montalcino Annata
Toscana, Italy
Major Grape: 100% Sangiovese BBS11
Tasting Notes
Biondi-Santi is possibly the best known name in the Italian wine world, being the family responsible for the development of Brunello di Montalcino in the late 19th century. The wines are extremely long-lasting, but surprisingly elegant, even in their youth. Typically, the winery makes a Riserva (made from vines older than 25 years), an Annata (made from 10 to 25 year old vines) and a Rosso di Montalcino (made from vines under 10 years). Depending on the vintage, grapes from a “higher” classification may be declassified to a “lower classification, meaning that in more difficult years the wines produced represent better value.
Review
The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino Annata is a beautiful wine laced with ethereal balsam tones, licorice, cola, dark fruit and forest floor. The acidity is evident but well-integrated within the thick textural richness of the wine. It closes slowly and quietly with a surprising flurry of delicate floral notes that pop up at the end. This well-built wine will hold for many years. Drink: 2017-2030. Score 93, eRobertParker.com, Feb 2014 3 Glasses Gambero Rosso 2014

2008, Riserva Del Don Chianti Rufina
Toscana, Italy
Major Grape: Sangiovese
Tasting Notes
Red berry fruit along with floral rose character and well delineated black pepper lead into a full, dry red, with supple tannin character and smoky oak finish
Domaine Prieur Brunet
2012, Santenay 1er Cru Maladiere
Bourgogne, France
Major Grape: Pinot Noit
Tasting Notes
This wine shows a beautiful balance between finesse and body. Pretty and fragrant with flavours highlighting raspberry, strawberry and black currants, with fine tannins and a hint of vanilla. Can accompany meals of pork or chicken, but also has enough structure to stand up to beef or lamb dishes.
